Sylvie Fortin is an independent curator, critic, and editor who seeks to operate as an cultural decontamination agent. As Editor-in-Chief (2004-2007) and Executive Director/Editor (2007-2012) of ART PAPERS, she led the organization from a regional publication to a global thought-leader. Sylvie was Curator of Manif d’Art 5—the 5th Quebec City Biennale (2010), Curator of Contemporary Art at the Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa, Ontario, 1996-2001), Program Coordinator at la chambre blanche (Quebec City, Quebec, 1991-1994), and a long-term collaborator with OBORO (Montreal, Quebec, 1994-2001). Her critical essays and reviews have been published in catalogs, anthologies, and periodicals across the Americas and Europe.
Sylvie is currently looking into hospitality and pondering the existence of something like a non-aligned aesthetics. During her residency at LegalArt she will be researching the local art community, connecting with artists and developing a project planned to take place in Miami and Marseille, France in 2013. She will also lead a SeminArt providing tools for artists to better develop their career.
