By abstracting these objects from their everyday use she transforms them highlighting their visual characteristics and challenging the structure of our subjective color experience. Finding meaning in the forgotten and trivial allows the accident to occur, creating beauty. The appropriate error comes along and the unconscious decisions of utilizing that object finally find sense. The meaning of these objects is modified and combined with the new significance given by the mere fact of its existence.

In this sense, Manny Prieres is an archaeologist, one that has painstakingly and lovingly preserved the objects of an unexplored civilization: their symbols, their gods, their rituals, and their lore. These artifacts bring up tales from the artist’s personal history, yet as a whole they create new narratives that, despite having hybrid elements from multiple sources of influence, are nevertheless moving towards an entirely different place.

The sisters’ work has been included in the international exhibitions “Uncertain States of America: American Art in the 3rd Millennium” curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist, Daniel Birnbaum, and Gunnar B. Kvaran, the Second Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, and PERFORMA 07. Their work has been seen and written about in publications like L’Officiel magazine, The Guardian, STEP Inside Design, the New York Times, Vogue Italia, and on the cover of ARTnews magazine for its 2007 “25 Trendsetters” article.

He is the founder and Minister of the Interior of the Borscht Film Festival, called the “hippest, most eclectic and electric movie festival in South Florida” and “Miami’s alt culture summit” by the Miami Herald and named “Miami’s Best Film Festival” and compared to “Sundance on psychotropic mushrooms” by the Miami New Times.

In 2011 he officially founded the Borscht Corporation, an interdisciplinary microbudget independent production house that helped create over 40 short projects in Miami, FL in its first year. He is also a published poet, playwright, and has directed musical plays at the Adrienne Arsht Center.

Recently, Lucas was named one of the “top 100 creatives” in Miami by Cultist, “top 20 artists under 40″ by the Miami Herald, one of the “power 30 under 30,” “Miami’s champion of independent film” by CoolHunting, and one of “33 Emerging Creative Minds” by SoFi Magazine.

As ½ of MayerLeyva, his music videos have premiered on Stereogum, NME, Vice and Rolling Stone and have been named to various year-end Top 10 video lists, including IFC, as well as exhibited in the Guggenheim museums in New York, Berlin, Bilbao, and Venice as part of a creative video biennial. He balances his artistic career in Miami with his career as a midfielder for the Liverpool football club and the Brazilian national team.

She explores different media (drawing, painting, video and Installation) in an effort to sustain her place as an artist in the present while analyzing and proposing post-ironic possibilities.

Jiae Hwang was born in Seoul Korea in 1981, and grew up in Korea and Space Cost in Florida U.S.A. She has exhibited nationally and internationally, including Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, Serpentine Gallery (London), Tomio Koyama Gallery (Tokyo), Emmanuel Perrotin Gallery (Paris), Fredric Snitzer Gallery (Miami) as well as MoCA North Miami, Rubell Contemporary Art Foundation. She currently lives and works in Miami.

During her attendance at NWSA, she was student body president and her tenure as student leader was not lost in the largely apolitical je ne sais quoi ambience of the campus. Her focus was in integration and was successful in creating many opportunities for growth and development across the disciplines of music, theater, dance and the visual arts.

She currently works in Miami in the fields of video and sculpture alongside writer and poet Abel Folgar. Her solo work, as well as the collaborative efforts with Mr. Folgar has been exhibited throughout South Florida. Her work takes its roots from combating feminist ideals, donks, Miami Bass, the punk rock do it yourself ethic (DIY), personal limits, the enjoyment of food and fun. Ms. Hernandez also co-directs the end / SPRING BREAK. This is a nomadic artist-run project committed to developing new modes of considering issues in contemporary art and culture within South Florida communities. Their focus is to develop programming that seeks to engage our audience as participants and elicit a discussion surrounding the thematic concept chosen for that event.

Ms. Hernandez is a focused individual with an understanding that daily life and minute-to-minute situations provide chances for knowledge, knowledge she readily absorbs. Her goal, aside from creating, is to continue to reflect the energy of her community through creativity, at least until the governing body of the Florida Lottery agrees with the numbers she picks.
